The Name of Imperial Garden: A Thousand Year Circulation from Qin and Han Dynasties to the Prosperous Tang Dynasty
The name 'Hibiscus Garden' originates from a royal garden history spanning thousands of years. As early as the Qin Dynasty, this place was designated as the "Yichun Garden" due to the winding banks and beautiful scenery of Qujiang Lake. During the reign of Emperor Wen of Sui, due to the abnormal blooming of lotus flowers in Qujiang Pool, it was renamed as "Furong Garden". In the prosperous era of the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong carried out large-scale expansion of this area and built a royal garden with Ziyun Tower as the core, making it a symbol of the prosperous era on par with the Daming Palace and Xingqing Palace. It was the core venue for emperors, concubines, literati, and scholars to enjoy the scenery, recite poetry, and compose essays. The scene depicted by Du Fu, 'On March 3rd, the weather is new and there are many beautiful people by the water in Chang'an,' is exactly the bustling scenery of this place.

The Road to Rebirth: From Historical Dust to Historical Landmarks
The modern story of Tang Dynasty's Furong Garden is a contemporary epic about cultural confidence and the revival of a prosperous era
The prosperous era is shrouded in dust: After the An Lushan Rebellion, the gardens gradually fell into disrepair and were ultimately destroyed by the wars of the late Tang Dynasty. Their magnificent scenery only exists in poetry, paintings, and historical memories.
Blueprint Emerges: At the turn of the century, Xi'an decided to rebuild the Furong Garden near the original site in a "retro but not muddy" manner to restore the historical context of the city, showcasing the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty royal garden.
Craftsmanship Reproduction: Led by Academician Zhang Jinqiu, the team researched a large number of historical documents and Tang Dynasty architectural styles. After years of careful construction, it was finally officially opened to the world in 2005, reproducing the pattern and charm of "prosperous Tang Dynasty atmosphere, royal gardens".
Cultural Lighthouse: Since its opening, it has become a cultural reception hall in Xi'an, receiving countless Chinese and foreign politicians and tourists. It is also the venue for various national cultural events, becoming a vivid window to perceive the Tang Dynasty and understand China.

Must See Wonders: Symphony of Architectural Epics and Landscape Art

Furong Ancient Town Furong Ancient Town

The landscape of Tang Dynasty Furong Garden is a comprehensive art about architecture, water scenery, poetry and painting, and artistic conception. Although it is centered around humanistic architecture, its exquisite layout perfectly blends with natural water bodies, garden flowers and trees, together composing a three-dimensional masterpiece of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

Humanistic Craftsmanship - Solidified Tang Dynasty Music
Each building here is not an isolated existence, but an organic note that constitutes a panoramic view of the prosperous era.
Ziyun Tower: As the spiritual symbol and commanding height of the entire garden, this main building was reconstructed strictly based on historical records, reproducing the majestic atmosphere of the emperor's visit and banquet to the courtiers in the past. Climbing up the tower and looking into the distance, you can see the misty waves of Nanhu Lake, the panoramic view of the park, and even the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in the distance. It is the best place to experience the artistic conception of "the palace is closed in the nine heavens, and the clothes and crowns of the world worship the Mian". There is a Tang Dynasty Treasure Museum inside the building, which houses a permanent exhibition of Tang Dynasty cultural relics, allowing the architecture and cultural relics to witness each other's brilliance.
Qiting and Shixia: This is the physical carrier of Tang poetry. The "Flag Pavilion" originated from the Tang Dynasty poet's poem competition in a restaurant, and the "Poetry Gorge" connected to it displays famous poems from the "Complete Tang Poetry" in the form of calligraphy and stone carving on the rock walls of an artificial canyon. Strolling through it is like walking in a long river of poetry, engaging in a dialogue that transcends time and space with literary giants such as Li Bai, Du Fu, and Wang Wei.
Lu Yu Tea House and Li Ren Xing Group Sculpture: Lu Yu Tea House is an exquisite Tang Dynasty tea culture experience space, where you can enjoy tea and experience the elegance of Tang Dynasty's "Tea Zen flavor". The group sculpture of "Beauty Walk" artistically reproduces the plump, confident, and colorful life scenes of women in the Tang Dynasty, and is a vivid textbook for understanding the social style of the Tang Dynasty.
Xingyuan and Qujiang Hudian: "Xingyuan" used to be a glorious place for Tang Dynasty's newly admitted scholars to hold a "flower exploration banquet", and now here you can feel the literary spirit of "spring breeze and galloping horse hooves". Qujiang Hudian "restores the urban atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty's international metropolis, where Hu merchants from the Western Regions gathered and goods were abundant, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

Natural Charm - Three Dimensional Presentation of Landscape Poetry and Painting
Although it is an artificial reconstruction, the extraction and reconstruction of natural elements in gardens have reached the realm of "learning from nature and surpassing it".
Qujiang Flowing Drinking and Furong Lake: The vast Furong Lake is the soul of the garden, which reproduces the artistic conception of the Tang Dynasty Qujiang Pool's "curved water flowing cup". The lake water and pavilions complement each other, forming a rich landscape hierarchy. At night, this place is a natural stage for large-scale water dance light and shadow shows such as "Chasing Dreams in the Great Tang Dynasty", with flowing lights and a dreamlike atmosphere.
Garden flowers and trees and seasonal scenery: The plant configuration in the garden is exquisite, with a large number of plants related to Tang Dynasty poetry and imagery planted. In spring, apricot blossoms bloom like snow, in summer, lotus flowers (hibiscus) stand tall on the lake, in autumn, red leaves are scattered, and in winter, pine and bamboo stand proudly in the snow. The changing seasons and different scenery perfectly embody the supreme pursuit of Chinese classical gardens, which are "created by humans, like blooming from heaven".
Wangchun Pavilion and Moonlight Mirror Platform: Wangchun Pavilion is a building built specifically to showcase the culture of women in the Tang Dynasty. Its reflection enters the water and forms a beautiful picture with the surrounding flowers and trees. The Moonlight Stage, on the other hand, stands out against the bright moon in the water at night under the light, making it an excellent location for capturing the moonlit Tang Dynasty.

Photography tips:
The best panoramic camera position is located on the third floor corridor of Ziyun Tower, which can encompass Nanhu, Wangchun Pavilion, and the distant city skyline;
At dusk, Caixia Garden is the best shooting time, with golden light shining on the roofs of Tang Dynasty buildings, shining brilliantly;
It is recommended to use warm colored lighting to create an atmosphere in front of group sculptures or lantern corridors at night;
Hanfu photography can be done in Xingyuan, Shixia, or any stone bridge to find framing and reflection, creating a sense of story.

Core Experience: Immersive Tang Dynasty Life Guide

Furong Ancient Town

Five Must Do Things to Unlock a Complete Journey to Hibiscus Garden
Wear a set of Hanfu and become a Tang person for a day
Hanfu experience is the soul of immersive park tours. There are multiple Hanfu rental shops both inside and outside the scenic area, providing a full range of services from makeup and hair styling to photography. Apricot Garden, Furong Bridge, Ziyun Tower Front Square, and Luyu Tea House are all excellent shooting scenes.
Go to a light and shadow banquet that spans thousands of years
Night scenes and performances are the essence of Tang Paradise! We strongly recommend purchasing tickets that include evening performances. Must watch large-scale water dance light and shadow shows such as "Chasing Dreams in the Tang Dynasty" or "Dreaming Back to the Tang Dynasty" musical dramas, and experience the shock brought by the combination of sound, light, and electricity technology and the stories of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. The garden lights are bright at night, completely different from the daytime scenery, like a palace in the sky.
Ascend the Purple Cloud Tower once and admire the charm of Chang'an
Climbing to the top floor of this royal pavilion is not only to overlook the panoramic view, but also to gain a psychological experience of the "emperor's perspective" and understand the grand pattern and open mindedness of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
Enjoy a Tang style elegant banquet and taste all the street snacks
The Imperial Banquet Palace in the park can provide Tang style palace banquets, allowing you to experience ancient cooking and dining etiquette. Qujiang Hu Shop and the dining points within the park offer a variety of Shaanxi style and Tang Dynasty specialty snacks, such as sesame cakes and Guifei cakes, allowing the taste buds to travel through time.
Searching for a Tang poem carved into stone, to have a divine connection with the ancients
Search for your favorite poem in the "Poetry Gorge", touch the texture of the stone carvings with your own hands, and feel the cultural pulse that has passed through thousands of years. In the park, there are often poets played by NPCs interacting with tourists to add fun to their poetry.

Suggested tour routes
Half day "essence Immersion" Tour (suitable for people with tight time, it is strongly recommended to enter the park in the afternoon):

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
